Vaccines for HIV

There is no approved HIV vaccine despite many years of work. Because so many attempts to develop an effective vaccine have failed, some believe it may be impossible.

On the other hand, a few people who have been exposed to HIV seem to be able to resist it completely. By studying these exceptional people we may discover new ways of boosting the immune system and protecting others from HIV. Even so, a vaccine is probably at least a decade away.
